Hello readers, this is a new series you will be reading about and it is focused on analyzing the lifestyle of our parents and ourselves when we were young compared to the present generation of young people. Your participation is important as we would really like to know reasons for the disparity in the generations.

I heard the story below from an elderly woman about when she was young. 

One day, her mum was going to the market and she insisted that she follow her against her mum’s reservations. She just wanted to go out, have fun, and lastly to ease her mum’s trip to the market.  

It started off well until they walked into a very busy street, then the work began even before she got to the market’. E ka ro ma’, ‘E ka ro Sir’ (‘Good morning Ma’, ‘Good morning Sir’), she said while bending her knees as it was the custom of the Yoruba people to greet everyone that walked pass them, whether young , old or whether they were known or not. After about 50 rounds of that, her knees began to feeble and she decided to take a break from kneeling while she greeted.

Wonders shall never end. This is definitely worth reading for all(especially parents) to learn. And to our pastors and churches worldwide, security of children within the church must always remain a priority as we constantly develop new methods of checking wolves amongst sheep like Israel and his friends below.

Israel Ekwuruibe is a devout catholic. Aside attending church regularly, he was a member of the choir at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Finima in Bonny, Rivers State.

On Sunday, September 29, he went to church and sat on the choir pew, using his baritone voice to sing praises to God. But deep within him was a sinister plan that had been conceived along with five others to kidnap the little son of a church member for a ransom. As soon as he sighted the car of their target, Israel made a sign to other gang members who were also within the church building, pretending to be genuine worshippers. The other suspects were Ifeanyi who was said to have formed the gang, Godswill Bernard, Loveday Anakwuru, Ogechi Nwosu (also a church member) and Odinaka Gabriel.

Before anyone knew what was happening, little James (not real name) was nowhere to be found. Israel and other gang members found their way out of the church but it did not take long before their evil deed became exposed. They were picked one by one in Finima. The leader, who had gone as far as Akwa Ibom State with the child, was apprehended along the way by the military joint task force before any ransom could be collected. This was how the Rivers State Police Command recently thwarted the plans of a kidnap gang, which thought it would make cool millions from a staff of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), Bonny (names withheld) by kidnapping his three-year-old son.
Crime Reports gathered that the kidnapped boy’s father reported at the Finima Division that he could not find his three-year-old son while in church. At about 3.45p.m., the man was said to have returned to the station, saying that someone called him with number 07010806571 and demanded for N15million as ransom. The Divisional Police Officer in charge of the division, Mohammed Suleiman Baba, a Superintendent of Police, reportedly swung into action while asking the man to play along by saying that he only had N50,000.

The woman in question happens to have been seeing the man for a while. They been having extra marital affairs for a very long time. The husband of the woman in question has been hearing rumors of his wife misconduct, but he never believed.

On that fateful day as usual his wife and her lover, went to their normal rendezvous which was a particular hotel (Name withheld) to have intimate intercourse. The husband who is already alert, got a call from his informant, he busted into the hotel and caught in pregnant married wife with another man.

The husband took pictures and recorded some videos. What a shame to womanhood and motherhood.

Why do married women cheat? Same for married men too. Why cheat? If you are guilty of such, heed my advise. Remember everyday is for the thief, one day is all the owner needs. Stop cheating on your spouse. If you know God, love him and fear him, cheating will become a thing of the past in your life.

Hot Mom Defends Herself Against Facebook Haters

A California fitness enthusiast and mother of three is defending a controversial photo of herself that has prompted a cavalcade of Facebook critics to accuse her of fat shaming women.

In the photo, seen above, 32-year-old Maria Kang poses in a workout bra and matching micro shorts — revealing an incredibly toned figure with washboard abs — while surrounded by her three young sons, now 1, 3 and 4. Floating above her head is the question, “What’s your excuse?” The picture has gone viral, with more than 16 million views on Facebook, and has generated more than 12,000 comments. And while much of the input has been of the supportive “you go, girl” variety, plenty of it has been made up of angry, offended personal attacks on the photo subject, calling her everything from “obnoxious” and “fake” to a bad mom and a bully.

But Kang, in an exclusive interview with Yahoo Shine, says that making other women feel bad about themselves is the opposite of what she was going for.

11 Years old Girl Appointed Ambassador In Tanzania

 

Africa's child ambassador, eleven year old Zuriel Oduwole, the Nigerian girl making the global case for educating the continents Girl Child and in the process, re-branding Africa, has been appointed an ambassador by Tanzania's First Lady. Zuriel was in the country last week - which was her second county stop on her East African leg to launch the acclaimed Dream Up, Speak Up, Stand Up project aimed at inspiring/encouraging African girls.

On October 11th, Zuriel was in Dar Es Salaam to the attend the United Nations UNFPA event which focused on reducing the incidence of child marriage in Tanzania. After speaking at the event, she was formally invited to the office of the first lady Mrs Selma Kikwete (Zuriel pictured with the first lady above). Mrs Kikwete commended Zuriel for her leadership at such a young age, she also commended her for bringing issues of girl's education to several African leaders, then the first lady formally appointed Zuriel an ambassador for the largest foundation focused on gender issue - Wanawake na Maendeleo Foundation (WAMA) of which she's the founding patron.

Zuriel was presented with an intricate 3 foot statue of unity, the same type presented to the US president, to symbolize the effect of Zuriel's in the lives of Africa's young women.

A woman approached actress Yvonne Jegede on her way to get groceries in Ajao Estate recently, saying how she is a big fan of her movies. 

The woman later cried and pleaded for assistance; she said she and her children had been living in a church, and barely had food to eat. Yvonne followed her to where her children were and after seeing their condition decided to help her. 

A week later Yvonne and her friend movie producer Chinneylove payed them a visit and gave them food stuff. They also gave them money to rent a place to stay.

Meet Meem, The 9-Year-Old Boss At A Bangladesh Sweatshop.

Some days are good for Meem, others she likes to forget as quickly as possible.The first time I saw Meem, which was also my first day at work at a sweatshop, she was having a good day despite the wretched heat. She sat cross-legged on the concrete floor, a tiny, frail figure among piles of collars, cuffs and other parts of unstitched shirts.She had a pair of cutters in her hands, much like eyebrow tweezers, and she was trimming threads from a navy collar. She cleared one collar after another of threads until the big pile, which had been bigger than her, was no more. It took her all morning and she didn’t look up much, did not join any conversation. When it was done, she took a few gulps of water from a scrunched bottle, walked around for a bit, her little hands rubbing her back, and went back to trimming threads — this time, from navy cuffs.She did that from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., except for an hourlong lunch break. 

Later, she said, it had been a good day: the electricity didn’t play hooky (which meant the three ceiling fans worked all day) and so it wasn’t oppressively hot, she had fish curry for lunch, and the floor manager didn’t yell at her for humming too loudly.It was a very good day, she said again, dancing a little jig.Meem is 9 years old and works as a sewing helper in a garment factory. For a few days this summer, she was also my boss.She taught me the tricks of trimming. She taught me to smile when my back ached. She taught me some Bengali words.Sab bhalo. It is all okay.

Getting the job

On a sweaty day this August, I arrived at a factory in a neighbourhood near Lalmatia in southwest Dhaka. The wide streets were lined with old buildings and were clogged with rickshaws, crowded buses and fancy cars. Clothes were hung out to dry from balconies, restaurants shared common front yards with abattoirs. At most street corners, there were shoe-shine men, tiny places that served tea and Bengali sweets.Morningtime was almost always more chaotic as schoolchildren in uniforms scrambled to get to class and grown-ups hurried to work.Off a main street and at the end of a laneway was the sweatshop.

UNESCO Says Education Of Girl Child Will End Child Marriages

UNESCO marks the International Day of the Girl Child today, with mind-boggling statistics about the implications, in missed opportunities, for nations such as Nigeria in leaving the girl-child in the doldrums, uneducated. With 5.5million girls out of school, Nigeria leads Africa in gender discrimination. Ethiopia, Nigeria’s opponent in a FIFA World Cup qualifying match on Sunday, has one million girls left out of the school system. This contrasts sharply with the 60,000 uneducated girls in Rwanda and the 170,000 in Uganda.

It is the view of UNESCO’s Education for All Global Monitoring Report that if all girls went to primary school, one-sixth of child marriages could be prevented among girls aged under 15 years in sub-Saharan Africa and South and West Asia. And if all girls got the chance to go to secondary school, child marriages could be reduced by two-thirds in these regions, saving almost two million girls from becoming child brides.

Nnamdi Azikiwe is the first President of Nigeria and remains a legend. Here is a picture of his wedding to his sweetheart and one-time First Lady of Nigeria, then Miss Flora Ogoegbunam in 1936. The wedding was held in James Town, Accra, Ghana.  

The wife died in 1983 and Zik himself later died in 1996.

Kano State Shuts Down Unregulated Private Schools

In the northern Nigerian town of Kano, over 80 private nurseries, primary and secondary schools have been shut down and another 52 have been suspended for violating Kano State's education law.

Meanwhile, a special task force on private schools there aims to close down another 700 institutions that are not meeting legal requirements.

Kano State's 10-year-old Education Law says all schools must meet certain requirements. They must offer a conducive learning and teaching environment, pay appropriate taxes to government, provide a well-stocked laboratory, maintain functional administrative and academic records, and have a provisional certificate of approval to operate. Baba Abubakar Umar, the Chairman of the Kano State Task Force on Private Schools, said, "the situation is quite pathetic; so many schools are operating without government consent, by extension without any kind of formal approval from the ministry of education. That is why the government intervened by establishing the task force to sanitize the entire private education sector."

He said part of the mandate of his office is to enforce a national curriculum for education, hire teachers, ensure the operation of laboratories, and determine the location of the schools.

Some private schools are located near sites that negatively affect pupil behavior - like under high tension cables, or near market places. There are over 4,000 nurseries, primary and secondary schools in Nigeria. He said that less than a thousand of them are registered - as required -- with the education ministry. "So many schools have opened without government approval," said Umar. "We have actually embarked on serious scrutiny with a view to detect schools that are [what we call] "mushrooms" - [schools that are] not viable, not standard -- and flush them out to ensure and bring sanity and improve the standard of education in Kano state."

Malala Yousafzai ;The Teenager Left for Dead By The Taliban For Demanding Female Education

A year ago, Malala Yousafzai was a 15-year-old schoolgirl in northwest Pakistan, thinking about calculus and chemistry, Justin Bieber songs and "Twilight" movies. Today she's the world-famous survivor of a Taliban assassination attempt, an activist for girls' education — and a contender to win the Nobel Peace Prize later this week.

Malala's battle for girls' education began when she was barely 11 years old - and at a time when the Taliban roamed freely throughout the valley, blowing up schools, beheading security forces and leaving their dismembered bodies in the town square. On 9 October 2012, Malala was on her way home in the back of a small pick-up truck used to transport the children when a masked man stopped the truck while another shot her in the head with a pistol.Doctors performed emergency surgery but her Malala's condition deteriorated while she was in intensive care, and Pakistani authorities asked a female Doctor Reynolds to help.

"In Peshawar her father had been told by the Pakistani doctors before she arrived to pray for her, and he took that to mean that she was dying. He actually started to make preparations for her funeral," Dr Reynolds said.

Children Born By Depressed Pregnant Women Can Become Depressed Teenagers

Teenagers are more likely to be depressed if their mothers were depressed while pregnant, according to a new study. Mothers' depression after giving birth was also tied to their children's mental health years later, but possibly for different reasons, researchers found.

Depression during pregnancy may affect a baby through stress hormones that move across the placenta, Rebecca Pearson, from the University of Bristol in the UK, and her colleagues said.

That goes against the suggestion of some researchers that depression is only important if it continues past the end of pregnancy and impacts parenting. "It should be treated during pregnancy, irrespective of if it continues during birth. It's as important during pregnancy," Pearson said.

She said the findings mean therapy should be made available to pregnant women with depression whenever possible. They also add another layer to the debate over the use of antidepressants in pregnancy. The data come from a large study that began following pregnant women in England who were due to deliver in 1991 and 1992. Researchers surveyed women twice during pregnancy and twice in their baby's first year about their depression symptoms.

Stowaway's Dad Requests Help For Problem Son

The father of a 9-year-old boy who evaded security to stow away on a flight from Minneapolis to Las Vegas told reporters Wednesday he's been frustrated in his efforts to get help for his troubled son.
The father spoke at a news conference on condition of anonymity to protect his son. Sobbing at times, he said his son had a history of misbehavior but officials had told him they couldn't help because his son hadn't done anything bad enough yet.

"Despite numerous checkpoints and gate agents, officials at Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport say the 9-year-old was somehow able to sneak through security and onto a Delta flight headed to Las Vegas."

"I'm tired of people saying he's a minor, there's nothing we can do. There's something somebody can do," said the dad, wearing a hoodie and baseball cap pulled low to hide his face.
The boy took a light-rail train to the airport last Thursday and blended in with a family to get past security, slipped past a gate agent and took an empty seat on the Delta Air Lines flight. The flight crew turned him over to police in Las Vegas, where he was still being held Wednesday.

Things Parents Should Never Say Around Kids

1. "School is boring."
Parents should resist criticizing their kids' school, including the faculty, in front of children. "The teacher and parent should really be a team in molding a child's education," says Fred. "The child needs to thrive in that environment and trust their teacher. Parental attitudes toward school could influence the child's behavior in the classroom and at school."

2. "Great job — not."
Sarcasm breeds cruelty, and parents shouldn't use it around their children, even when talking to other adults. And sarcasm's effect on kids' health when aimed directly at them can be quite damaging. Kids will be hurt by a stream of put-downs disguised as humor. And if they're too young to understand that you're being sarcastic, they may interpret "wonderful job" to mean just that, and not a mean-spirited jibe at their failure to clean up their room.

3. "What the [bleep]!"
What parent doesn't want to sink through the floor after their toddler drops a four-letter word in front of company? Want to avoid this in your family? Good parenting means using the kind of language you won't mind your children repeating. "Children mirror what they see and hear in the home," says Laurie. "If you do not want your children using this type of language outside the house, then you shouldn't use the language inside the house, even if speaking with other adults."

4. "You're burning up with fever."
Be careful when verbalizing concerns about your kids' health (or anyone's health) in front of them. "Children tend to get very upset when they hear that they are ill or someone around them is ill," says Laurie. "Parents should conduct in-depth discussions among themselves, and then approach the child with an explanation appropriate for their developmental level of understanding.

5. "Shut up!"
Parenting can be tough, but having regular meltdowns, verbally abusing your partner and children, and flashing your temper are not the kind of kids' lessons you want to teach. "Children learn more by watching us than when we lecture them," explains Fred. "So it is important to model our behaviors and set an example of what we want our children to learn."

Christians in Osun State Protest Aregbesola's Merger of Muslim Students Wearing Hijab With The Baptists High School, Iwo.

Christians in Osun State, especially members of the Osun Baptists Conference, on Monday protested against the attempted merger of Muslim students wearing hijab with the Baptists High School, Iwo, under the new education policy introduced by Governor Rauf Aregbesola.

Aregbesola last week inaugurated a new education policy in Osun, which the governor said had necessitated re-classification and merger of public schools in the state to reflect the new education system.

The governor, who expressed worry about the protest, however, urged the people to cooperate with the school restructuring, saying the policy was introduced as part of transformation of the education sector by his government.

Aggrieved Christians armed with Holy Bible and Hymn books trooped to the Baptists High School as early as 7:30am and dislodged the students and prevented teachers from entering the school premises.

Meet The Millionaire’s Wife Who Feeds 40,000 Children

It’s 3pm on a crisp August afternoon in Johannesburg. Tsitsi Masiyiwa is seated on a comfy couch in a makeshift living room at her elegant office in the leafy suburbs of Dainfern, north of the city. I meet her when she is in a deep conversation with a South African journalist and one of her office employees. I sit down to join the conversation and Masiyiwa recounts a fascinating story.

The year was 1996 and Masiyiwa and her husband, Strive Masiyiwa, were almost penniless. The couple was going through a rough patch, and they were struggling to feed themselves and their children. “We were so broke. We couldn’t even afford to give our visitors tea,” Tsitsi Masiyiwa says in retrospect. “We were practically living from hand to mouth.” But things hadn’t always been this way. Just a couple of years before, Strive Masiyiwa owned a thriving business. He had founded Retrofit Engineering, an electrical contracting firm that handled lucrative construction contracts for the government and had built a considerable fortune. But his fortunes reversed in 1993 when he decided to establish Zimbabwe’s first independent mobile telecoms network to rival the government-owned telecommunications company.

At the time, the Zimbabwean Post & Telecommunications Corporation (PTC) was the sole provider of telecommunication services in Zimbabwe. When Masiyiwa expressed his interest in acquiring a mobile operating license and launching a substitute mobile telecoms network, the government threatened to prosecute him if he dared to pursue his plans. The Zimbabwean authorities denied him a license.  Refusing to bow to intimidation, he took the government to court, challenging the government’s monopoly on telecommunications and seeking the rights to operate a mobile phone company in Zimbabwe. It was a landmark case that lingered for close to five years, eventually finding its way to the Supreme Court. “Our problems began when we sued the government,” Masiyiwa recollects. “You cannot sue the government and think things will always be right.”

During that period, the government, which was Retrofit’s biggest client, immediately called off its existing contracts with the firm. It had disastrous consequences for Strive Masiyiwa. Within months, he could hardly afford to pay salaries and he finally had to sell off the company’s assets to finance Econet’s legal battles against the government. Before long, the Masiyiwas’ funds had dried up, and they were on their wits end.

“So we were broke. In trying to understand what was going on around me, I began to do an intensive soul searching. Then I prayed to God and made a deal with him. I told God that if he granted us the license to operate the mobile phone company in Zimbabwe- and he made us successful, then I will help support as many poor people as possible for as long as I lived,” Tsitsi Masiyiwa recalls.

Tsitsi Masiyiwa, a deeply religious woman, took a step of faith along with her husband. “We went ahead and registered Capernaum Trust, a charity that we decided would give scholarships to needy children. It was an unpractical thing to do at the time, especially considering the fact that we had nothing. But as a Christian, you do unreasonable things,” she enthuses.

Daily Tips For Your Child To Get The Best From The New Academic Year

1.       Make sure your child sleeps for at least 8 hours every day. For growing minds, a good sleep is important for rejuvenation. Lack of good sleep will only lead to a fidgety, uneasy and sleepy child in class.

Persistent Dog Coax Down Syndrome Boy To Play.

A video has been posted online showing the heart-warming moment a gentle dog befriended a young boy with Down's Syndrome and persuades the child to play. The boy's mother, who posted the video on you tube, said Herman, five, from La Plata, Buenos Aires, usually backs away from contact. The little boy was initially reluctant to play but after much persuasion from the dog, he starts to play with the dog.  See the video after the cut.

Friends, Let me add the benefit of my time as a student and then resident in the UK - and I live in Lagos now. The first thing that I discovered about UK-born,white, English undergraduates was that all of them did holiday or weekend job to support themselves - including the children of millionaires amongst them. It is the norm over there - regardless how wealthy their parents are. And I soon discovered that virtually all other foreign students did the same - the exception being those of us status-conscious Nigerians.

I also watched Richard Branson (owner of Virgin Airline)speaking on the Biography Channel and, to my amazement, he said that his young children travel in the economy class -even when the parents (he and his wife) are in upper class. Richard Branson is a billionaire in Pound Sterling. A quick survey would show you that only children from Nigeria fly business or upper class to commence their studies in the UK. No other foreign students do this.  

           

There is no aircraft attached to the office of the prime minister in the UK - he travels on BA. And the same goes for the Royals. The Queen does not have an aircraft for her exclusive use. These practices simply become the culture which the next generation carries forward. Have you seen the car that Kate Middleton(the lady soon to marry Prince William) drives? VW Golf or something close to it.  But there's one core difference them and us(generally speaking). They (even the billionaires among them) work for their money,we steal ours!

If we want our children to bring about the desired change we have been praying for on behalf of our dear country, then please, please let's begin now and teach them to work hard so they can stand alone and most importantly be content, and not having to "steal", which seem to be the norm these days. "30 is the new 18", which seem to be the new age for testing out the world in Nigeria now.  That seems to be an unspoken but widely accepted mindset among the last 2 generations of parents in Nigeria. At age 18 years, a typical young adult in the UK leaves the clutches of his/her parents for the University, chances are, that's the last time those parents will ever play "landlord" to their son or daughter except of course the occasional home visits during the academic year.   

Why Sex Should Be After Marriage

1.Sex is a powerful force that can destroy if not used properly. Like atomic power, sex is the most powerful creative force given to man. When atomic power is used correctly it can create boundless energy; when it is used in the wrong way it destroys life. Sex is the same kind of powerful force. Sex is a gift from God to give us the greatest pleasure, to help in creating a deep companionship with one's spouse and for procreation of the next generation. But if you play with this powerful force outside the bounds of marriage, it destroys you and those close to you.


2. intimate activity for young people arrests their psychological, social and academic development. Studies show that when young people engage in premarital sex, their academic performance declines and their social relationships with family and friends deteriorate. This is because adolescents are too immature to deal with the explosive sex drive and it tends to dominate their life.


3. The majority of women cannot enjoy sex outside of the bonds of marriage. The development of a fulfilling sex life needs the security and peace of the marriage bond. Premarital sex usually takes place sneaking around in hidden places dealing with the fear of being caught, the fear of pregnancy and feelings of guilt. All these (worrisome) factors undermine pleasure in premarital sex, most especially for women.

Young Man Dies A Month After Saving Neighbour's Toddler From Burning House.

Can anyone remember the story of the young man who braved a raging fire to save a 17month old baby? The Hero died due to the degree of burns sustained.

Although, he has answered the divine call, but the life and times of Michael Anthony, aged 27, who paid the supreme prize, by delving into a burning house to save a toddler trapped in the burning house shall linger long and remain a reference point for many.


Angel Michael as he was fondly called at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital ( BSUTH) and its vicinity, where he spent weeks on admission for severe burns before his eventual death, went through the pains to save the life of the child of a neighbor.

Please, help me solve this problem that has torn apart and is threatening my happiness, my daughters and probably the future generations yet unborn.

I married my husband just like every other young woman and we both looked forward to a blissfull future with our children. Contrary to the belief of some people that I would have problems bearing children, through God’s mercy, my three children came few years into our union.

A lot of people believed we would have to wait on the Lord for the blessing of the fruit of the womb as that was the tradition in my husband’s family, but God singled us out and we had our children without any hitch.

With these, our joy was complete and we never envisaged that these children would be a source of discord in our family now.

I am a trained nurse with a B.Sc in Nursing from Glasgow, Scotland and my husband is also a trained professional engineer. We both had good jobs until my husband lost his job and getting another good well paid job became difficult. We both decided that I should travel out of the country to practise and when I am stabilised, he would join me with the children.

As luck would have it, I secured a good job and no sooner had I got to England that my husband secured one too. We had it all, which was what we thought. I would have returned immediately, but since my being over there made it convenient for my family to visit on holidays and my children were not too young, I stayed on my job and sincerely my husband did a good job taking care of the children.

The summer my first daughter turned 18, it was my turn to visit home. When I arrived, I noticed a tensed atmosphere between my daughters and their father. I forgot to mention the fact that I am blessed with three children, two girls and a boy, the boy is the last.

The story below was reported by PM News and it left me speechless. A father! A mother! What would make you do such to your own child. What madness or possession would make a 'parent' have sex with their 6 year old child? How can we protect other children from animals like this man's friend who also slept with the poor child. There are others like the two lunatics walking around seeking children to devour. While i am still pondering at it, continue reading the wickedness of man to child below. It is simply an abuse of the stewardship ordained by God. This man can be anything else but he is definitely not a father.

A 13-year old girl has narrated how her biological father, Stephen Chimaraobi,  and his friend, Paul Oha, raped her for seven years in their Ojodu home in Lagos State, southwest Nigeria. Following her revelation, the police at Grammar School Division, Ojodu, arrested her father and his friend. Chimaraobi from Delta State has remained single after his wife left him, while Oha from Mbaise in Imo State, is married and has two kids.

The victim revealed that her 42-year old father and his friend started defiling her when she was six years old and continued till she became 13 without each of them knowing until she reported the matter to the police. She said she did not know the damage they were doing to her  until now that she became an emotional wreck.

Parents Going to Jail If Their Kids Are Not In School

Governor of the western Nigerian state of Ekiti,  Kayode Fayemi, has threatened to jail parents who refuse to send their children or wards to school from primary to junior secondary levels.

Gov. Kayode Fayemi issued the threat at Emure-Ekiti in Emure Local Government Area, at the commencement of the “Registration of Pupils” into Kindergarten and Primary One class’’ for 2013/2014 academic session.

Never Bend The Rules With Your Child's Seat Belt

A new survey finds that as many as one out of five parents believe it's OK to drive with their children unbuckled if it's a short trip, despite the emphasis placed on child passenger safety.  The survey by the child advocacy group Safe Kids Worldwide and General Motors Foundation finds that more than one-fifth of parents – 21% -- think it's acceptable to drive with their child unrestrained if they are not driving far.

In reality, more than 60% of crashes involving children occur within 10 minutes of home, according to The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia's Center for Injury Research and Prevention. "Historically, we've encountered that attitude before with adults (and seat belts)," says Julie Kleinert, a child safety specialist at General Motors. "People think that if they're not going very far, they don't need to wear their seat belt. I think we need to get the message out to people that they're at risk whether going a short distance or a long distance."

Men and Toilet Etiquette

Picture this: He is about to erupt like a volcano. He’s been running around all day and he’s not yet had a chance to empty his swollen bladder. He finally makes it to the toilet and just barely manages to undo his jeans zip whilst stomping his feet like he’s been treading barefoot on hot coal. At this point his eyes are already firmly rolled to the back of his head as he positions himself to take aim into the toilet bowl below. He has already made up his mind to take a stand because in HIS mind he’s a sharp shooter. So he brandishes his ‘piss tool’, he aims, he shoots and to his surprise he misses… but the toilet seat gets it. This is a common phenomenon that has baffled women for centuries; not the fact that men miss but that they choose not to lift the toilet seat up. Now, I’m going to attempt approaching this sensitive topic as objectively as possible. There are 4 types of men that use the toilet:

a) The Lazy man:


This breed of man makes up close to 80 percent of the world’s population. They consist of those who are ready to take a piss just about anywhere in public. They urinate directly on the DO NOT URINATE HERE signs, at least in Nigeria. The toilet seat, in their eyes, is a 50 pound weight that requires brute strength in lifting. These amateur artists will turn any white canvas into a bed of yellow poker dots. And if you expect them to clean up after themselves then please revert to the type of man (in bold) being analyzed in point ‘a’.

b) The Proud man:

Woman Delivers baby On Board Arik Flight To London

An Arik Air flight with over 100 passengers en route to London Sunday was forced to make an emergency landing in Palmas, Spain, as a woman went into labour and gave birth while the aircraft was airborne.

The pilot was said to have requested the emergency landing on the advice of two doctors who were on board the aircraft and had helped the mother deliver the baby.

When the passenger went into labour, the cabin crew asked that doctors on board the flight to identify themselves. Following the announcement, two of the passengers came forward, saying they were doctors and assisted in the delivery of the baby.
