THE STORY OF BENNY HINN'S DIVORCE AND REUNION.

 

Malachi 2:16 says God hates divorce. But he certainly loves forgiveness and reconciliation--something Benny Hinn and his wife Suzanne, who divorced in 2011, experienced Sunday, March 3.

Wedding bells rang once again for the high-profile evangelist and his wife.

They wed for the second time at the Holy Land Experience Church, in Orlando, Fla.

“Those who attended left deeply moved, saying that they would never be the same again,” reads a statement on BennyHinn.org.  “The presence of the Holy Spirit was rich from start to finish. The ceremony was flawless, beautiful and heavenly!”

Charisma publisher, Steve Strang, who was among the leaders in attendance at Sunday’s two-hour nuptials, reported that, “all eyes were on the bride and groom in a rather traditional ceremony, mixed with plenty of praise and worship.”

Noted leaders in the audience were Morris Cerullo, Marilyn Hickey, Marcus and Joni Lamb, Cindy Jacobs and Riva Tims.

Strang also shared a moving story Evangelist Hinn told the audience. A year and a half ago, his oldest grandson Theo Koulianos, who was six at the time, asked his grandfather on Thanksgiving day if he would be getting back together with "Nana."  Young Theo said he was praying that Jesus would make that happen. "God answered that little boy’s prayer," Hinn told the cheering crowd.

The news first broke in 2010 that Hinn's wife of 30 years had filed for divorce on February 1, citing irreconcilable differences. In August 2010, a broken Hinn admitted to viewers of his much-watched “This Is Your Day” program, “I've made mistakes because I wasn't the perfect husband and the perfect dad because I was always gone traveling the world. “

He continued, "That's probably what broke the whole thing up," and compelled viewers not to make the same mistake he did and "neglect your family." But it was later revealed, in June 2012, that Mrs. Hinn’s prescription drug abuse was actually what led to the demise of the union.

"Suzanne started taking certain prescription medications to help her cope with some of her personal struggles. She became dependent on those for nearly 15 years, and those medications made her behave erratically at times," Hinn shared in a message on his website.

"As her husband, I did not know the extent of her reliance on these medications, nor did I fully understand just how much harm they were causing to her, physically and emotionally."

Hinn further explained, "The truth of the matter is that Suzanne filed for divorce because she was in a deep emotional and physical crisis that affected her in such a way that caused her to make a decision she now regrets. And although it was, without question, the most agonizing two and a half years of my life, the end of our marriage most certainly woke me up, and the Lord used it to show me -- as a man of God and as a man -- that I cannot function properly without my wife and family."

Now that those turbulent times are behind the two, the newlyweds are starting over fresh, and feeling thankful. The couple released a joint statement and said, “To all of our partners and friends, we love you with all our hearts. Thank you. You are the greatest! To our precious Jesus belongs all glory, all honor, and all the praise forever, amen.”

Benny Hinn was born Toufik Benedictus Hinn in the coastal city of Jaffa in Israel in 1952. He was one of eight children born to an Armenian mother and a Greek father. The family was Greek Orthodox. In 1968, they emigrated to Canada settling in Toronto and Benny, who by this time was a young teenager, began attending Georges Vanier High school, north of Toronto.

In Orlando, Florida he met and married Suzanne, the daughter of a local pastor and it was there that Benny Hinn began to build his evangelical empire.

Today he is known as Pastor Benny . Without doubt he is one of the best known televangelists in the world. Each year he travels the world conducting miracle healing crusades.

He produces a daily television show called "This is Your Day" from his studios based in California and has written several books about his life and ministry.

Benny Hinn is a proponent of the Word of Faith movement. As is implied by the name the supporters believe that faith works as a mighty power or force. That it is through faith you can obtain anything you want – such as health, wealth, or any form of personal success. However, this force is only released through your faith.
