WILL SMITH, A PROUD FATHER OF JADEN SMITH?

"Married since 1997, Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith have recently become famous stage parents. Their two children, Jaden (15) and Willow (13) have achieved stardom beyond just their off-spring status through high-profile film roles (Jaden in The Next Karate Kid) and music careers (Willow’s “Whip My Hair” single in 2010). Both parents have been heavily involved in their children’s careers, including acting as producers on projects (Smith produced The Next Karate Kid) and using their celebrity status to promote their children (Pinkett-Smith announced Willow’s impending album release during a talk show appearance).

While Hollywood is littered with famous off-springs (the Beckhams, the Jolie-Pitts, Suri Cruise), Smith and Pinkett-Smith have seamlessly created a family brand that incorporates their children’s unique careers with their own. Jaden and Willow’s success can be located in Will Smith’s own family friendly, but also, at times, incredibly juvenile image. Although voted “Hollywood’s Most Valuable Actor” by Forbes magazine in 2009, Will Smith has not achieved the same success in the 2000s as he did in the 1990s when portraying young, juvenile characters (Independence Day, Men in Black, Wild Wild West). While his inability to grow into a more mature image has (arguably) impacted negatively on his own stardom, it has positively influenced his children’s stardom, allowing Smith to pass on his childlike image to his children.

In a joint interview,  Will was asked if Jaden could have been a dentist instead of an actor, Will responded
: "It may seem like we have pushed our kids into the business, but that is absolutely insane. I would never, ever, push somebody to have their face on a poster that’s going be everywhere in the world. He is making a choice from the informed. It’s less scary to me than if he wanted to be a dentist in that I couldn’t help with what he’d chosen. I have relationships with some of the biggest filmmakers and actors and producers on Earth. So I can be a huge help.

Willow chose singing and then un-chose it. She said, “Daddy, I want to go to school with my friends during the week, and I want to hang out with them on the weekends.” At the peak of “Whip My Hair,” she’s like, “Daddy, I’m done.” At the end of the day, it has to be their choice.

Jaden Smith, 15, was asked about his rumored romance with Kylie Jenner – but before Jaden could answer — Will interrupted with a very shocking response!

Jaden tried to respond by saying, “I’m trying to understand,” but his father cut him off. ”Don’t,” Will instructed Jaden. “You know, he’s never had to, to deal with those kinds of questions.”
“Well, forget the Kardashians,” the interviewer said. “Maybe you could just…”
“So how do you think your life is similar or un-similar to people’s names in Calabasas?” Will responded mimicking the interviewer. He then added: "For our family, the entire structure of our life, our home, our business relationships—the entire purpose is for everyone to be able to create in a way that makes them happy. Fame is almost an inconsequential by-product of what we’re really trying to accomplish. We are trying to put great things into the world, we’re trying to have fun, and we’re trying to become the greatest versions of ourselves in the process of doing things we love. So the idea of fame or exploitation or orchestrating the media is sometimes even less than desirable for us."

Jaden says of his dad: He’s, like, really just cool. He lets us have our freedom as long as we can control our freedom.

Will Smith revealed that Jaden has sought an emancipation ruling, with the consent of his parents, as a fifteenth-birthday present. Will Smith revealed to the media that Jaden's primary motivation is the establishment of his own residence and also explained that his children are not subject to strict parenting conduct: "We generally don't believe in punishment. From the time Jaden was five or six we would sit him down, and all he has to do is be able to explain why what he did was the right thing for his life."

However, Jaden and his father appeared together on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on May 15, 2013 and confirmed that the matter was not a serious consideration. Jaden provided his response to the emancipation matter: See, here's the thing you need to explain: I'm not going anywhere. The thing that people don’t get is everything at his house—is free. So I can get anything and everything that I want at his house. So I think, I'ma be there for 20, 30 more years. But he says, as soon as I have a movie that's bigger than one of his movies, then I have to get my own house.

"I think every successful father is happy to have their son tow the same career line as they are. If so, Will Smith is definitely no longer "In pursuit of happiness". Happiness has come to stay in the home of the Smiths."
